ALBANY, N.H. - A 45-year-old man was arrested after a teenage girl found him
staring at her from below an outhouse seat, police said. Police said they pulled Gary Moody, from Gardiner, Maine, from the waste tank under a log cabin outhouse on Monday.

I used to date a guy in H.S. who would correct me when I'd say "I'm mad" by saying "cows get mad, people get angry". He could be a condescending prick, and that's what ultimately divided us.

Just as Bush has done with us. I'm profoundly disappointed that Bush has squandered away the solidarity our nation felt in the days following 9/11. We became a single non-partisan nation, and we all waived our flags in unison. Then came the fateful rhetoric that began the severe division we suffer from today. "You're either with us or against us in the fight against terror." The flag became a token of division as have the support our troop ribbons. Newsflash, it is in fact wholy patriotic to waive the flag and support the troops without supporting the war in Iraq.

Last night in Bush squandered yet another opportunity by stating in his address, "There is only one course of action against them - to defeat them abroad before they attack us at home." Again with the tired rhetoric. I wish he could see his way to unifying our nation. But that hasn't happened because Bush is mad, and that makes me angry.

BALLS!

I hope I have a tenth of the balls this guy has at age 73.

Grandfather kills leopard with his hands

NAIROBI (Reuters) - A 73-year-old Kenyan grandfather reached intothe mouth of an attacking leopard and tore out its tongue to kill it,authorities said Wednesday. Peasant farmer Daniel M'Mburugu (I took the liberty of making his name bold because he deserves it!) was tending to his potato and bean crops in a rural area near Mount Kenya when the leopard charged out of the long grass and leapt on him. M'Mburugu had a machete in one hand but dropped that to thrust his fist down the leopard's mouth. He gradually managed to pull out the animal's tongue, leaving it in its death-throes.

I mean shit!!!... he freeking dropped the machete and rammed his fist down its throat!

plus he didn't just chase it away or something...he killed it! damn!!!

LJUBLJANA (Reuters) - A man died after lightning struck a metal cross he was holding during a funeral in a village near Ljubljana, the Slovenian news agency STA reported Thursday. It said the 62-year-old man died in hospital Wednesday evening, several hours after the incident in the village of Brezovica. Another person at the funeral was slightly injured.

According to CNN, Vice President Dick Cheney is defending his recent comment that Iraq's insurgency is in its "last throes." Cheney told CNN that progress is being made in setting up a new Iraqi government. "We will succeed in Iraq, just like we did in Afghanistan," Cheney said.

That's right...we were so successful in Afghanistan because we caught Bin Laden! And we'll be equally successful in Iraq because, we've spent years destroying it at the expense of so many lives and livelihoods.

Your really are a Dick, Mr. Cheney.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Today hubby, the girls and I spent some time at one of the outdoor malls near us. We had a nice dinner (yes, we eat out a lot as I'm a very challenged cook), and we chose to sit outside. Perfect opportunity to people watch. Don't judge me, we all do it. I noticed and will never understand is why men still seem to think it's okay to wear black socks with shorts in the summer. Or why their wife, girlfriend, or partner (okay if they have a partner, chances are they have fabulous fashion sense and this post doesn't apply to them) allows them leave the house like that.

Gentlemen, it is NEVER okay to wear black socks with shorts. The only appropriate socks to wear in the summer are white athletic style socks and they should come no higher than your ankle. And no, you may not take knee high socks and scrunch them down - that trend died somewhere in the late '80s.

Officially, 63 US Military Deaths in Iraq from 1 through 17 May, 2005 – Official Total of 1,814 US Dead to date (and rising)

U.S. Military Personnel who died in German hospitals or en route to German hospitals have not previously been counted. They total about 6,210 as of 1 January, 2005. The ongoing, underreporting of the dead in Iraq, is not accurate. The DoD is deliberately reducing the figures. A review of many foreign news sites show that actual deaths are far higher than the newly reduced ones.

There is excellent reason to believe that the Department of Defense is deliberately not reporting a significant number of the dead in Iraq. We have received copies of manifests from the MATS that show far more bodies shipped into Dover AFP than are reported officially. The educated rumor is that the actual death toll is in excess of 7,000. Given the officially acknowledged number of over 15,000 seriously wounded, this elevated death toll is far more realistic than the current 1,700+ now being officially published.

not that we ever really know what the truth is but this article makes some good points. I would not be shocked if this were true but could it be that american casualties are really 300 - 400% more?

I knew when the war started that we were only really told the 'combat related deaths'but Ii never do hear how many have really died as a result of the military action in iraq.

it would make sense to me if these numbers were correct.

WHY CAN'T GAYS BE RELIGIOUS?

Although (as I've previously posted) I don't currently participate in organized religion, I was confirmed Episcopalian, and I really admire the courageous steps some Episcopalians are taking towards religious inclusiveness for gays.

The U.S. Episcopal Church on Tuesday affirmed its support for gay clergy at the meeting of the Consultative Council, an international body of bishops, priests and lay people that meets every three years, and appealed for the contentious issue not to split the 77 million-strong Anglican Communion. Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold, head of the Episcopal Church, acknowledged that "our actions around the question of homosexuality have deeply distressed a number of you." However, he said, "the overwhelming majority of Episcopalians are committed to living a life of unity in difference."

How can someone's sexual preference make them any less qualified to believe in and/or preach the word of God? Because the bible says so? Didn't that same bible suggest oppression for women and promote slavery? I'm sorry, but it's just wrong to pick and choose which passages to enforce based on one's personal comfort at the blatant expense of another person's comfort.

SAR'S CHILDHOOD MEME

My blogger buddy Doug, tagged me for a meme about 5 things I miss from my childhood. I'm very sentimental, and what I miss most aren't things I had so much as things I did.

1. THE BEACH. Dad used to walk me and my brothers to the beach in CA on the weekends when we were younger. We played in the ocean, made sand creations, and visited with the lifeguards. Most times dad would take us for ice cream along the way. It was near a coffee shop that had the most incredible wafting scents of fresh ground coffee (probably explains my love for coffee to this day).

2. SNOW DAYS. We moved to NJ when I was almost 11. I'm not a big fan of snow now, but as a kid snow days ruled. Me and my brothers would have snowball fights with the neighbor kids (I was pretty girly and used the garbage can lid as a shield while my brothers launched the assault), then we'd sled down the hill & wind up back home where mom made us hot chocolate with marshmallows.

3. MUSIC WITH STRIDER. We used to hang out in my room or the basement and listen to music and hang out for hours. Strider always was on the cutting edge of music, even though he's a tad younger than me. Pink Floyd, Guns N Roses, U2, Motley Crue, Ozzy Osborne come to mind (though I was always into '80s pop too - Scritti Politti & Flock of Seagulls!). Ironically, out of all that we only got yelled at for listening to "Helter Skelter".

4. CHRISTMAS. You can never get that natural excitement back. Our family is big on tradition and we'd go to the pageant service on Christmas Eve. We'd get up Christmas morning and be allowed to open our stockings while mom & dad caught a few extra zzz's. Finally we'd drag them out of bed and we'd start opening gifts - one at a time, starting with our younger brother who'd then pick for someone else and so on. Then we'd have the "holiday bread" mom made from a long-standing family babka recipe. We'd eat together, then spend the day with our new loot.

5. PROMS. My mom would take me shopping for gowns, then she'd create a pattern & gown based on what I liked (BTW, she made my wedding gown too). My current love for all things pampered probably originated from my love of going to the beauty parlor to get my hair done up. And I loved all the cliché elements too: the corsage, limo, pictures, and of course the dancing and socialization too.

I think I'm supposed to tag and move names up or something, but I'm switchting up the rules (so shoot me!). Rather than try to choose who to tag, I'll extend this meme invitation to anyone who'd like to revisit their childhood. Let me know if you choose to participate, and I'll stop by to read your post.

SUPPORTING FASHION?

Rubber wrist bands have become all the rave. Some folks wear them in support of a cause, some just to make a fashion statement. I personally wear a Livestrong band and Strider wears a One band. My daughter, who just finished 1st grade, used $2 of her own money to buy a blue Make A Wish Foundation band from the hostess counter at a restaurant last week then promptly put it on her ankle in accordance with the fashion trend here.

This article tells of a British school that banned them during exams, thinking the kids would use them to cheat. And another nearby school has limited students to wearing just one wristband per day, claiming the ever-growing number of competing causes was getting out of hand.

Has the merit of these wrist bands been replaced by a mindless fashion trend? Did these schools make the right call?

a majority of the members of the Senate sponsored the bill but there were some notable holdouts. who would oppose such a bill--ceremonial or not?

I LIED TODAY

A woman approached me in the parking lot while I was putting my little one in her car seat...

So here's the thing. I'm not Jewish. Technically I'm a Christian, but I just don't participate in organized religion. I don't fault people for their support of organized religion, it's just not something I feel comfortable with. Nor do I have anything against Jewish people - in fact, my best friend and her family are Jewish. What I do find fault with is obnoxious people, like this woman, trying to ram their religious views down my unsuspecting throat...which is why I lied today.

Sign the petition to Congress opposing these massive cuts to public broadcasting. Tell your senators and representative Congress must save NPR, PBS and local public stations. We trust them for in-depth news and educational children's programming. It's money well spent. If approved, this would be the most severe cut in the history of public broadcasting, threatening to pull the plug on Big Bird, Cookie Monster and Oscar the Grouch.

apparently producers who wanted to put this movie together told david hasselhoff KITT shouldn't talk. after holding his ground for two years the producers caved and the car's voice shall be heard. I bet when KITT starts talking he will tell them that this movie is a stupid idea.

it has been reported that michael keaton would "seriously consider" doing beetlejuice 2. lets see...how many times did you have to say beetlejuice to make him appear? 3 times? damn...I said it 3 times in this post...lets hope he didnt hear.

What's with guys and their hang up with balding? Well, gentlemen, if you feel so afflicted, you could subject yourself to this laser contraption. Or, may I suggest you just shave your head. Really, this can be a very sexy look. Case in point, David Beckham. To the best of my knowledge, he's not even balding yet he chooses to shave his head and he's wicked hot. And though he's not on my personal list, you could also include Bruce Willis as another example.

A CHANGE WILL DO YOU GOOD

Remember back in 2003 when Republican Representative Walter Jones dubbed the term "freedom fries"? It still leaves a bad taste in my mouth (resist the pun). Well, it seems he's had a change of heart.

"I voted for the resolution to commit the troops, and I feel that we've done about as much as we can do," Mr Jones said on US network ABC. "I just feel that the reason of going in for weapons of mass destruction, the ability of the Iraqis to make a nuclear weapon, that's all been proven that it was never there."

To his credit he has also written letters of condolence to more than 1,300 families of servicemen killed in Iraq, and has posted pictures of those killed in action outside his congressional office.

Congressman Jones, let me be among the first to commend you on your bold move. I forgive you, and welcome you back to reality.

I love this CD. I play it so often in the car that my girls sing along now too. Last night while we were eating out, "Bigger Than My Body" was piped in through the restaurant speakers. So I leaned forward and said to my daughter who's almost 7 and was sitting on the opposite side of the booth, "listen, honey, it's John Mayer!". She was excited that she recognized it too. It was a sweet moment that was rudely broken when the obnoxious teenage girls in the booth behind me started snickering at us. So I turned around and gave them my best "Excuse me? Oh I don't think so!" look. Which shut them up, but still begs the question - is it not cool to listen to John Mayer? And when the hell did I become the adult that teenagers snicker at?!

FEAR THE BAT

this summer I think that I was looking forward to 'Batman begins' as much as I was looking forward to star wars. (maybe more) now that star wars is done fore me I can move on and start pushing my fondness for Batman. (yes he gets the caps)

They roll out in the US very soon. I must admit that some of their cars are very ugly and I dread hearing the report of 'hummer vs smart car' on the news one night but these cars are really pretty cool. I hope they come onto the scene and create a niche kind of like the V W beatle did.

Cool things about them:

gas mileage isn't available for US models yet but Europian models get 60 mpg priced from $15,000 to $25,000, depending on options.
compact - two of these cars can fit into a single parking space
some are very sporty looking (others are ugly)
lots of options
very versatile
they have solid color plastic body panels so paint scratches are a thing of the past exchangeable body panels

I know this car won't be for everyone but city drivers will love it for sure.

Then you can rip on me for thinking Americans will actually want something smaller that gets better gas milage.

A LITTLE COMIC, IF NOT ECONOMIC, RELIEF

It cost me $40 to filler up today. My jaw still hasn't found its way back up from the floor. But I suppose it could be worse. Here are some signs that you're really broke:

1. American Express calls and says: "Leave home without it!"
2. You've rolled so many pennies, you may as well be married to Abe.
3. Long distance companies no longer call you to switch.
4. You see your roommate as a large fried chicken in tennis shoes.
5. You rob Peter...and then rob Paul.
6. You finally clean your house, hoping to find change.
7. You think of a lottery ticket as an investment.
8. You give blood everyday - for the orange juice.
9. McDonalds supplies you with all your kitchen condiments.
10. The neighborhood dog stopped sniffing at your pockets.

(1) Number of books you own: what is considered a lot? on the book shelf right next to my desk I have....hold on let me count.......89. that doesn't include other book shelves and books scattered around the house. oh and then there are the school books....both from college and high school. I feel bad throwing books away so many are around in odd places.

(2) Last book bought: 2 the same day...1) chuck palahniuk - haunted 2) chuck klosterman - sex drugs and cocoa puffs* (a low culture manifesto - now with a new middle) I guess that day I was in the mood to read books by authors named chuck with wacky last names.

(3) Last book I read: kevin murphy - A Year at the Movies : One Man's Filmgoing Odyssey. fun book. (kevin murphy is the writer producer and actor in one of the funniest shows ever...mystery science 3000...and if you have never seen the show do your self a big favor and rent borrow or steal them now. the movie was amazing also.)

(4) Five books that mean a lot to me:

george orwell - 1984 - everyone should read this book because (the rest of this review has been edited by the ministry of truth)

chuck palahniuk - fight club - yes it's that chuck fellow again. this book is better than the movie .(doesn't everyone always say that? anyone out there ever read a book and found the movie better?) I love the philosophy behind the book. "if you don't know what you want...then you end up with a lot you don't."

the daily show with jon stewart presents america (the book): a citizen's guide to democracy inaction - don't ask questions...just go get it

bill flanagan - u2 at the end of the world - if you really know me you know there had to be a reference to u2 somewhere in here. amazing band, amazing book.

cs lewis - the chronicles of narnia - I still remember my pop reading them to my brother and I before bed every night when we were younger. good times.

The One Campaign and the upcoming Live8 shows are both global efforts to end extreme poverty. That's why this article struck me & Strider as absurd at best.

A campaign group has called the Live 8 London concert "hideously white" for not having enough black performers. London-based group Black Information Link said organisers had "handpicked a virtually all-white line-up". But a Live 8 spokesman said: "Bob Geldof approached a number of urban and black artists to participate." He added a number were busy with other projects and commitments. Artists including 50 Cent, Stevie Wonder and are Jay-Z are among those taking part in the Philadelphia concert.

Someone needs to explain to us exactly why it is that this group believes black people should hold the monopoly on fighting against the extreme poverty in Africa and the world abroad. As a gal of German and Irish decent, I am right glad to see my Irish heritage being represented by Bob Geldof and U2, but I ask you where the hell is Nena and her 99 Luft Balloons to represent my German decent?

Why is it that people continue to trip over their feet trying to be politically correct instead of just taking the time to think. Do people really believe that Bob Geldof and the organizers of Live8 are specifically excluding black artists? Seriously, why would they do that? What purpose would that serve?

When did being "PC" preempt the simplicity of being tolerant and understanding?

WE THE PEOPLE....PROPOSE?

Hubby & I spent the weekend celebrating our 11th anniversary (a week early) at a beautiful Bed & Breakfast. We had the privilege of meeting the chef and owner of Pomme and enjoying his fantastic French cuisine (recently featured in Style Weekly).

We also spent a great deal of time learning about and touring the mansion and beautiful gardens of Montpelier, the home of James Madison our 4th President. Though sadly a slave master and one who should have fought for emancipation, James Madison did pioneer the Separation of Church & State, Bill of Rights, and is considered the "Father of The Constitution".

While in the Education Center of Montpelier, we discovered a bulletin board dedicated to input from tourists for proposed constitutional amendments. There were many and varying submissions. For example, some supported the abolishment of the electoral college and some were in favor of gay marriage while others opposed it. I added a few about addressing the growing danger of religious influence in political decisions and the need to be inclusive of gay rights in support of everyone being created equal.

What constitutional amendment would you suggest?

just want to update you on a few movie projects in the pipeline. some good...some bad.

Indiana Jones 4 - yes it IS happening. yes the script has been approved by lucas and spielberg. yes harrison ford is getting old. yes it will kick ass. do we have ANY idea when it will be out? no.

adventures in babysitting will get a remake (just like every other mediocre movie) and will come out in late 2005 or early 2006. get the oscars ready.

rambo is back! ugggg. wont this ever die? the plot? get ready for this...rambo's family will be kidnapped by white supremacists which prompts the muscle-bound war hero to begin a worldwide search for his loved ones. um...ok.

in more stalone news (as if you really wanted it)

Sylvester Stallone has written a biopic about the writer edgar allen poe and will also direct it. at least he didn't decide to star as a super pumped up version of poe. that role (stallone hopes) will go to robert downey jr. seems appropriate to have a drugged out actor play a drugged out writer.

Rove has the spin control working overtime in defense against the report Amnesty International released last week which says prisoners at the U.S. Navy base (Guantanamo Bay) in Cuba had been mistreated and called for the prison to be shut down. Cheney appeared on Larry King to declare he was "offended" by the report. (What? Cheney made a public appearance?) And Bush has claimed the report is "absurd". (What? Bush actually read a report?)

In response, Dr. William F. Schulz, Executive Director of Amnesty International USA released this statement:
"What is 'absurd' is President Bush's attempt to deny the deliberate policies of his Administration, which has detained individuals without charge or trial in prisons at Guantanamo Bay, Bagram Air Base and other locations. What is 'absurd' and indeed outrageous is the Bush Administration's failure to undertake a full independent investigation, and that completed reports into human rights violations in these prisons remain classified and unseen.The network of secret detention centers operated by the US around the world must be opened to scrutiny by independent human rights groups and those responsible for torture, no matter how senior, must be held accountable. It is also worth noting that this administration never finds it 'absurd' when we criticize Cuba, China, or when we condemned the violations in Iraq under Saddam Hussein."
