PROTECT OUR TROOPS AND OUR COUNTRY

A secret Pentagon study has found that at least 80 percent of the marines who have been killed in Iraq from wounds to their upper body could have survived if they had extra body armor. That armor has been available since 2003 but until recently the Pentagon has largely declined to supply it to troops despite calls from the field for additional protection, according to military officials. (source)

now that is just plain messed up.

how is it that we spend 400 billion on defense and we cant get our soldiers these vest plates? how does that make sense?

I guess it has to be one of two things.

1. inept management by this administration and congress

2. not giving a shit.

I would hope it's not number two but apparently ( as we all already knew) they didn't expect an insurgency anyhow. I mean damn...you go to war and 2 + years later you finally admit this:

When asked who was to blame for the subsequent Iraqi rebellion, in which thousands of Iraqis and Americans have died, Bremer said "we really didn't see the insurgency coming." (source)

I guess that's what you get when you ignore, fire or force to retire all of the people who may be critical or have a different take on how to handle the situation.

now we are seeing just how corrupt these asses in washington are. the other shoe has dropped. (and it's like a size 15 steel toed work boot.)

first they start a war and have no exit strategy (vietnam) then we spy on other americans (watergate) now it looks as if we are trying to outdo history and seem to have "the most corrupt congress in history. (or at least this congress is getting caught in the act)

so what is my take on all this.

clean house.

...or should I say clean all three houses?

house of representatives
the senate
and
the white house.

"...no country can be well governed unless its citizens as a body keep religiously before their minds that they are the guardians of the law and that the law officers are only the machinery for its execution, nothing more."

We'd have to clean house and board up the windows and doors. Neither will happen any time soon though.

I see parallels to the Joe McCarthy era. If you don't agree with what the administration says you might/must be a terrorist.

The ironic part here is that we're supposed to be in a democratic nation with a capitalist economy.

The two can't really co-exist, because, in a capitalist nation, everything is for sale, even a vote. So, who has the real power here? The people? Or the people with money?

Until it's just the people, then our government can't help but be corrupt.

I think it's both 1 and 2. They're unbelievably incompetent and they don't give a shit that they are.

Sometimes I think that Brownie may just have been the brains in the outfit.

Strider, excellent post (especially closing with the apt Twain quote). It is a completely unacceptable and unbelievable situtation. But as Nedhead inferred in his excellent comment, the balance of American people are sadly just as ignorant.

Tt is a pathetic and a sad testament of our elected reps of both parties. If they show this disregard to our soliders can you imagine the total disregard they have fro their constituancy.
