OVERKILL?
Pro boxing is 'legalized killing': Catholic press
The Jesuit-run "Civilta Cattolica" (Catholic Civilization) weekly slammed boxing in a six-page editorial in an edition which hits Italian news outlets on Saturday."(Professional boxing) goes against the natural moral and divine principle of not killing, and as a consequence, not to voluntarily and knowingly inflict injury, which could in the end cause death."
I've never been a fan of boxing. Personally, I think it's completely barbaric. But I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say it's legalized killing. Now, the death penalty on the other hand, is legalized killing, yet I don't see Catholic-led uprisings over that.

I'm pro-killing. There should be a spammer season, in fact.
I suspect the crusades might fall under the auspices of legalized killing. You know, go in the name of God and all that...
I am from texas, need I say more?
Anonymous - Be vewy, vewy, afwaid of the guy below you.
Doug - Go get 'em killer!
Jet - A caveat by any other name is still a cavat.
Ev - You box? Well that explains your distorted views. There's no hypocracies in the Catholic church. Now where did I put my pills.
Sree - You're forgiven. ;)
Ariader - Karate? I'm not inclined to agree. Seems to disciplined to me. Rugby perhaps, but certainly not American-style football. Bunch of overpaid whining wussies.
well, actually the official Vatican line on the death penalty was "against" under the last Pope (though plenty of US Catholics are not against it, of course) and the most liberal RC churches here are anti that and war as well.
Not sure how the new Pope stands on that.
Boxing in the Mike Tyson, Don King brand is pretty fucking barbaric, I agree, but Olympic style is safer and more about the actual sport of boxing (with headgear and stuff) than is the other.
Just my 2 cents.
Araider - Oh I agree they experience a great deal of hurt, I just couldn't tie it into "legalized killing".
Mike - That may very well be their stance. My point was I don't see them taking out a 6-page editorial to protect "the natural moral and divine principle of not killing, and as a consequence, not to voluntarily and knowingly inflict injury, which could in the end cause death" as it pertains to the masses affected by the death penalty. And I agree, knawing off your opponent's ear is pretty fucking barbaric.
So the Catholics are against EVERY outlet of testosterone?
They're just mad because the sport is ruled by non-MaryCult Protestants.

every sperm is sacred, G.
Gabriel & Mike - I'm speechless.
I can't be bothered even paying attention to the vatican... all that raping of little kids and they have to stick their nose in adult crap.
SICKENING.
Alice - that it is.
