KARMA COMEDIAN
Last week I was randomly chosen to prescreen a potential new sitcom. So after the courier came yesterday with my video and pamphlets, I diligently watched this potential sitcom. Here's the thing, C Thomas Howell was one of the stars in it. I had a huge pre-teen crush on him. You're thinking automatic green light from me, right? Sadly, no. He was horrible and so was the show. In fact, it was downright painful to watch.
I have to say though, it was incredibly surreal filling out the pamphlets and giving feedback, MY feedback, knowing it could have a direct impact on C Thomas Howell. He sure had an impact on mine, especially when he broke my little pre-teen heart by responding to my heartfelt fan mail with nothing more than a mass-produced, stamped autograph postcard.

Are you sure your bitterness isn't clouding your judgement? I can't believe an actor of his caliber would do a sitcom unless the quality was there.
don't worry about it, he's gay anyway.. :P
well, he IS easy on the eyes, at least. Just keep the sound off.
Doug - Nah, my bitterness & crush on him died long ago. I've since moved on in my fantasy crushes.
Mike - And you know this....how exactly? ;)
Araider - I'm impressed you know that. Maybe you took over my fantasy crush on him! Though it seems you might have a little competition from Mike V.
Dddragon - See, that would normally apply, but I'm telling you, this was just awful. He was wearing a dress suit. Now, don't get me wrong, on the right man that's absoultely easy on the eyes. But not on him. Plus he lost a ton of weight and was way too skinny for my taste so the suit just hung like a curtain on him. And I don't know what was going on with his hair. Like a grown out crew cut slicked & combed down. Blech.
Ev - I'm exactly the wrong person to be telling that tv is dumb, pal. 24, Lost, House, Nip/Tuck, Boston Legal, Prison Break...should I go on?
he's so hot.. :)
Is he really still calling himself C. Thomas Howell? Sounds kinda silly. That "C" must stand for something horrible.
sar- Boston Legal and Nip/Tuck were sooooo good last night, weren't they?
Ev - whatEVs.
Araider - Great. Now I have the song stuck in my head. Thanks a lot.
Mike - Um....okay then. Not that there's anything wrong with it. ;)
TLM - There is noooooooo way you, my uber conservative friend, watch Nip/Tuck -- it's essentially soft porn! But, if you actually do, I have newfound respect for you. So I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and play along. Yes it was sooo good. Hot, hot, hot. And Mattie, looking all kinds of badass freaky, is just going lose it and it ain't gonna be pretty when he does. And who do you think the Carver really is? The new surgeon? Kit? Who's also Tara on Boston Legal which was a great episode too. Especially the court case about being patriotic vs 1st ammendment! Well, and Betty White going murderous with a frying pan. Didn't see that one coming.
And you though I was chatty about politics? :)
C. Thomas Howell...
Howl, Thomas, Howl...
)+(
Gabriel - Still laughing. I don't know why it struck me as being that funny, but it did. Btw, if my former fan memory serves, the C stands for Christopher.
sar- I've seen every episode of N/T at least 5 times (except for the current season ones... only once or twice.) I'm fairly certain The Carver is Merrill, the drug-addict surgeon (played by Joey Slotnick, who was also wonderful on Boston Public, but I digress...) from Seasons 1 and 2. I suspect he'll make some more guest appearances soon.
I'm not with you on Lost and 24... Too creepy and complicated for my taste. Though House is a must-watch in my house every week. Have you seen Numbers yet?
TLM - Wow, just wow. Merrill! Oooh, that would be wicked! Except, didn't he die the end of last season? 24 is my favorite show (*sigh* Jack) but it doesn't start up until January. Lost is cool but you're right, it is creepy. I watched Numbers a few times (as you know, I myself am facinated by numbers) but never really got into it, Rob Morrow (I think that's his name) was too morose. House is my second favorite show, actually first until January (*sigh* Dr. House - love his sarcasticly cynical character).
sar- I think Merrill just cut his own face off. There's some debate about whether or not he's dead. He's the obvious choice, so he's probably not The Carver.
My only other guess would be the creepy guy (Kevin) that Julia was dating for awhile.
Should be interesting!
What our SAR is failing to mention is that the other teen heart throb that she plastered on her wall when she was growing up was John Stamos (The pre Full House version, that is). She thought the two of them were dreeeeeeeeeamy.
Strider on the other hand had a thing going for Elle McPhearson and proceeded to plaster her Sports Illisrtated photos on his wall to cover up the floral wall paper that was in SAR's room when he finally took it over.
I'm not sure if I ever did this (and I'm sure that Strider or SAR will correct me if I did, and proceed to let everyone know who it was), which may explain the fact that both of them are happily married with one or two kids, and here I am single at the age of 29 whith a history of relationships that have failed in spectacular ways. Wow, you never quite get used to the screaming and deceit. Ahh well, what can you do really?
The Brother
Post script: To come to her defense, many girls had crushes on these guys back then, and to her credit it never filtered into her high school days. The only crush that has persisted to this day seems to be 24's Keifer Sutherland, and hell who doesn't have a crush on him.
The Brother is right, I had forgotten about Blackie on General Hospital. And don't forget Strider also had a crush on Christie Brinkley. His room was plastered in Sports Illustrated pix. As for you? I just remembember bizarre hand drawn pictures on your walls (and how come you never got in trouble for drawing on the walls?!). A frustrated artist in the making.
