So, let me get this straight, strider... Are you saying that half of the population doesn't like President Bush? Now there's a shocker!!

Next, you'll probably be saying that half of the nation's voters didn't vote for him in '00 and '04.

I'm stunned, really.

yeah...maybe I am pointing out the obvious.

...but if you look at the link with the poll...only 42% approve of the job he is doing...that is NOT half.

that is LESS than half.

so for 51% of the public to DISapprove of bush is a shocker...because in the 4+ years of this dumbass being president it has only happened once before.

people are starting to realize that this deceptive, conniving, corrupt, idiot isn't the saint he has been made out to be.

if this trend continues...he will shoot his own party in the foot...simply by being himself.

an idiot.

keep up the good work mr president. the 51% is nothing to worry about. (insert sarcasm)

FYI - even during the monica thing clintons disapproval number didn't even get close to
51%.

I always wonder about the % of people who are asked these questions and say "undecided".. Who are these people?

And I'm sure Bush isn't losing much sleep over the 42% approval. I mean, just what is the opposition gonna do about it anyway?

Nobody asked for my input in these polls, so you can just go ahead up that 51% on my behalf.

The problem here, of course, is that historically, the masses have rarely ever been right. That's why they get the leaders they get--they get the leaders they deserve, if you think about it.

When our opinions become the majority view, something extremely frightening and subversive is about to happen, or we're being lied to, and fattened for the slaughter...

These disapproval numbers are bad signs for Bush. First off, it means a large number of people in the public are starting to consider him a lame duck president in his second term. Secondly, it means that any possible successor from his party is at a statistical disadvantage unless they can clearly isolate themselves from his policies and ideals. So far, I haven't seen a Republican interested in running for President in 2008 who can do that (we can talk more later about the slim chances of any Republican like that to make it through the primaries later). Finally, it spells bad news for members of Bush's party in Congress, many of whom are facing tough challenges back home, because it means they can't or don't want Bush to campaign for them. It also means that many Americans would probably rather see a Democratic congress in 06 or 08 (which most polls suggest now). With all of that, I think that even a DNC completely unorganize or unfocused can make some big opposition gains.

Ok, time for me to offer a couple thanks.

First, thanks to alice for the nice second of my comment above.

Second, I wanna thank Sar and Doug for coming over to the blog to lob some tough ones at Alan, a rather annoying camper who's set up shop in the comments area of my blog.

Anyway, you can all return to your normally scheduled commenting now.
