Sound Destruction: I'M PISSED

I'M PISSED

This is what I think of Bush's predictably stubborn & selfish decision to bypass Senate approval and appoint Bolton as UN Ambassador. Who needs global allies when we can go it alone, right?! It's mind boggling how anyone in their right mind can continue their allegiance to this stupid rogue cowboy that we're forced to call our president.

Hey, hey now. We voted him in, so he must know what he's doing. Like, for example, he's really good at...

Um...

Wait... what exactly is it that he's good at? Nepotism? Tunnel-vision? Short-sightedness? Selective compassion?

Oh, oh, wait. He's really good at convincing Americans that he's actually good for them. He's got a real talent for that one.

Well then, sar, I guess it's good that the UN is an impotent organization incapable of doing anything right! Bolton might as well have been appointed Ambassador to Aruba... Not much difference.

Man, I can't wait until the day we get some real cajones and evict those deadbeats. I'm sure the good people of NYC could use the extra parking spaces (current occupied by the sprawling UN complex.)

The only thing Bush has shown competence for in 5 years is pissing off democrats which makes partisan Republicans happy. I hope the group fondle is as pleasurable as it seems. The only reason partisan Republicans are opposed to gay marriage is they prefer orgies.

Maine - Excellent comment!! Callous narcissim also comes to mind.

TS - you're welcome! :)

TLM & Araider - good grief! Though it makes for a nice deflection, the UN is not the villian here. It's Bush who remains the raging fire that fuels the global disdain towards us.

Doug - Excellent analogy, though surprising coming from you. It inspires a word that serves as both noun and verb apropos for Bush: Splinter.

I like how Araider took Doug's analogy of Republicans and ultimately said "It'll probably stink real foul". Sound like a proper assessment to me. ;)

ARaider, When a manager makes decisions for no reason except to piss off half the people and get in a manpile with the other half, he isn't fit to be in charge. I don't disagree with Bush getting done what needs to be done this only happened but this only happened to get good play on Fox.

Sar, splinter is the perfect word for the reasons you gave and because it describes the remnant of a wooden head.

Sar is right. tlm and araider are using the nomination as an excuse to bash the UN as a whole (which, granted, John Bolton would love them for because he says the same thing). Sar's complaint is with with Bush--why not address that instead of veering away onto your own topic?

And while America hasn't always had a good image with certain nations, most polling and international surveys reveal that over the last 5 years, overall international approval has gone down. I don't know how you can blame that on the Democrats, since its the Republicans who own Washington and the government. But I'm sure araider, when left to his own devices, could figure out a way.

But what about Bolton's sexy, pr0n star-style mustache? That's GOT to count for something...

OK, fair enough, Chris. Forget everything I said about the UN.

As you said on your own site, Bolton couldn't get a real vote. Damn right!... That's the issue here. And whose fault is that?

sar, You'll have to forgive me if I don't join in on your Bush bashing. If that's all you intended this thread to be, then have at it. Bash on! :)

Araider - as much as you falsely group me into your blanket accusation of being deadset against Bush, you in fact are a follower with equal blind dedication. And guess what, the torture at Abu Graib was horrific. I don't know how to put a hyperlink in a comment, so I'm sending a link to my mentor, Doug (sorry I let you down swami) to put up in the comments. It's graphic proof of the atrocities that occurred at Abu Graib. I'm sure CW can offer a substantial amount of links as well.

It's unnacceptable compounded by the fact that it comes at the hands of the very American military who are supposed to be liberating and spreading democracy. We go in to erradicate torture with what, more torture?! Think that does anything to substantiate our global standing? I'll tell you this. The very president you defend and admire is responsible for sending off honorable, dedicated soldiers to suffer and/or die in an unjust war, and he promoted the idiot who was ultimately responsible for said torture and the piss poor post-war lack of plans.

And I'm sorry to hear the Comfort Inn sucks. Try staying at a Holiday Inn, you might learn something. ;)

Well, TLM, I suppose thank goodness Bolton wasn't a viable candidate, because look at all this fun we wouldn't have had!

As for "Bush bashing", I'm afraid Bush just does it to himself. We just reitterate with emphasis.

Amen, Strider.

I was against the Bolton nomination for a couple of reasons: 1) The Senate couldn't properly give advice and consent because the White House would not release non-privileged documents about incidents that had concerned both Democrats and Republicans on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. 2) The man isn't who the United States needs at the UN. This is the same guy who said we should just remove the 10 top stories and it would still be the same ineffective agency. That's just wrong. The UN is going to become critical in rebuilding efforts in Iraq--unless we plan on abandoning the people and letting the balance of power in the middle east settle with Iran and watch the democracy we tried to create devolve into Civil War. 3) The guy was a jerk at the State Department and a bad boss. 4) As was revealed last week, he lied on a Senate questionaire. If he lied on that, what else was he going to lie about?

In our foreign affairs today, we need credibility more than anything. John Bolton doesn't offer any credibility--well, maybe to the idea that neoconservative international relations theories are prevalent in the leadership of this nation. The United States can do better. And that should be good enough for selecting someone like Newt Gingrich to be UN ambassador (and yes, I'm serious about that).

Araider, he did it for the manpile, but I'm prepared to leave it at that. There's a link you should see, per Sar:

As has been explained, Bolton is totally wrong for the job.

Furthermore, the only difference between Bush and Hitler is that Hitler was acknowledged as a dynamic orator, while Bush is so pitifully inarticulate that he is barely coherent.

Bolton was picked because he has been part of the neocon crime family for a long time. To hell with them both.

I had a lot to say about this...then I saw Doug say "manpile," and it just sort of evaporated.

It'll come to me later.

The idea, not the manpile.

Araider - good luck on the hotel front. As a courtesy I should warn you the link Doug was kind enough to put up for me (a million thanks, Doug!!!) has graphic photos from Abu Graib in addition to a non-partisan written account of events.

CW - thanks for your eloquently astute case for why Bolton is the wrong choice. Now, let's talk about your choice of Newt??

Shea - Bush is so pitifully inarticulate that he is barely coherent - that would be exceptionally funny if it weren't so sadly accurate. This is the leader of the free world we're talking about, afterall. And you're right, it's all about connections. Why else would anyone pick Bolton to be THE FACE of our country?! *shudder*

Gabe - You, speechless? Wow...

Doug - You left Gabe speechless! Wow...

Sar, that's because I was using his voice. I honestly thought of him before I wrote "manpile." Not that there's anything wrong with that.

chris - I don't believe for a second that you're opposed to the Bolton nom because of the FRC documents. That's unoriginal horseshit, frankly... Like it came straight out of Sen. Schumer's mouth. I'd actually respect your opinion if you just said "because Bolton is a pompous S.O.B." What's in those documents doesn't mean anything, as far as Bolton's lack of character is concerned. We already know how he operates. For Dems (like yourself) to use it to hide real motives is cowardly.

And you've got to be kidding about putting Newt in the U.N... WTF? Are you forgetting his affair with a congressional aide, his ethics lapses, his tactless way of serving his wife with divorce papers, etc, etc.?

Yep.. Fine moral guy he is. You're right, though... He'd fit quite well in a global organization of thugs and criminals.
