FOX VS AL-JAZEERA (COMING SOON)

It has fought repeatedly with Washington, which says its exclusive broadcasts of Osama bin Laden speeches show an anti-American, pro-terrorist bias. Its freewheeling broadcasts have decimated state-run TV stations across much of the Arab world, leading some countries to close its bureaus down.So what does
such a network do next?

Plan a massive expansion.

thats right.

al jazeera is planning a massive expansion that includes the US market.

coming to you direct from qatar you will be able to see an english version of the news station and maybe get a glimpse at non-westernized news.

should be interesting to see fox react to this.

That will be interesting! If FOX can't handle CBS, or PBS, they could be beside themselves when some commentary comes along from an Arabic news source.

The shit ain't never gonna happen. There is no way that El Presidente is going to allow any "alternate perspective" programming in the USA. Lovely story - I'd love to see it - never gonna happen.

I don't think Fox or the President are too worried. They have their audience. I wonder if they will have different stories in English?

I could see it happening so long as El Presidente (as Maine refers to him) could control the spin. Just look at how they've manipulated the main stream media and whored out Fox.

I think the reaction will be predictable.

I remember hearing "non-Westernized" news many years ago for the first time, and being totally thrown off guard. Hey...what, you mean people don't like us? You're kidding, right?

Yeah...this'll go over great. And think about all the beheadings we'll get during May Sweeps!

Heh. Think of the changes Fox will need to make, to stay competitive. (That waving flag graphic in the upper corner of the screen will have to be set on fire, for example.)

And oooohh... Laurie Dhue in a burqa! [drooling all over myself]

I think it's safe to say that Fox's already rabid foaming will probably get a little foamier.

It will probably be a boon for Fox News. "See America? We told you we're the only ones that you can trust. Now look at this channel! They look different than you! They talk different than you! They think different than you! We're sending Sean Hannity over there with a baseball bat and some bacon to straighten them out! Only Fox is fighting for the American Way!

Gabe - it's astounding to me how many Americans can't grasp the fact that because GWB went and fucked around with the bees' nest, we've in fact provoked a potential swarm attack in retaliation, and the beekeepers across the globe see us as nothing more than instigating, meddling assholes.

TLM - Maybe Fox will have to change its slogan from "Fair & Balanced" *choking on the absurdity*, to "Fire & Brimstone"!

Jack - that's exactly the sort of spin to which I was previously referring.

Al Jazeera will become too Americanized just like Much Music. When Much Music was brought to America it was supposed to be the Canadians' view on music. Now it's Fuse and it's like watching MTV3.

Everyone should watch OUTFOXED. You can get rent it at Blockbuster or if you're that lazy, just go here:

As for Fair & Balanced, what a joke. You can't even mention Sean Hannity's cohost by name. Sean Hannity serves as the token All-American eye candy (though not in my opinion!) while his unforgetable cohost with his odd facial structure and bug eyes is as hard on the eyes for liberals, progressives, & dems as he is to the conservatives . C'mon now!
