ROVE IS MR. HANKY?

About a dozen papers objected to Tuesday's and Wednesday's "Doonesbury" comic strips, and some either pulled or edited them. The strips refer to Rove, the White House deputy chief of staff, as "Turd Blossom." Among those with concerns was the Providence (Rhode Island) Journal, whose editors removed the offensive word from the strip's final panel.

I don't get it. Personally I think referring to Rove as a "turd blossom" is a huge understatement. Even so, why is it acceptable for the President to refer to his senior aide as a "Turd Blossom", when it's apparently too offensive to print in a politically satirical comic strip?!

Because the editors of those newspapers (like most newspaper editors) are ignorant. I'm sure if they knew that was Bush's own nickname, they wouldn't have done something so stupid.

If turd is inappropriated, I better make sure that when I have kids they never watch Nickelodeon, ABC Family, or Disney because I'm sure they've uttered the word turd before.

Somebody call the FCC, maybe this'll bring Michael Powell out of retirement.

TLM - Another example of media with weak knees.

CW - Snark is the best way to address this absuridity!

I just found out that my terrible local newspaper, The Des Moines Register, censored the word turd as well.

What the fuck is this world coming to?

turd turd turd turd turd turd turd

The fundamentalist left and their acolytes in the mainstream media thing that foul language like "turd" is okay when it's used against Christians like Karl Rove but they howl at the moon over "cankles" when it refers to Hillary Clinton or another secular extremist.

Just guessing.

Doug may be "da man", but he's "guessing" apples & oranges, Araider. Remember, our gripe is over the sensorship imposed by the MSM over a name apparently so benine that the President deems it suitable as an in-office nickname.

Then again, maybe I'm giving dubya too much credit here.

Is "cankle" really considered foul language now?

(I could certainly contribute some really offensive examples of foul language used to describe Hillary, but I don't think this is the right venue for that.)

I think I'll support Araider's request on this one. Go for it, TLM! Then things will really get interesting around here.
